Method
-
Cut the chicken into 4 long strips about ½ in (1.3 cm) thick and season them with ½ tsp salt.
-
Whisk the egg and milk in one shallow dish. In another, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper and the remaining ½ tsp salt.
-
Coat each strip in flour, then egg, then flour again, pressing so the coating sticks. Rest the strips on a plate for 5 minutes.
-
Heat ½ in (1 cm) of oil in a heavy skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry the strips for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until golden and 165°F (74°C) in the center. Drain on a rack.
-
Warm each tortilla in a dry pan for 15 to 20 seconds per side so it folds without cracking.
-
Spread 1 tbsp ranch down the middle of each tortilla, add lettuce and cheese, then a chicken strip. Fold the bottom up over the strip, then fold in both sides so the top stays open. Serve right away.
Tips for a closer clone
- Slice the strips evenly so they cook at the same speed and fit the tortilla.
- Lay the cheese on the hot chicken first if you like it a little melted.
- Air fryer: spray the coated strips with oil and cook at 400°F (200°C) for 10 to 12 minutes, turning halfway.
- Leftover strips reheat best in the oven or air fryer, not the microwave.

About this dupe
It is back on the menu
Plenty of pages still say the Snack Wrap is gone. McDonald’s took it off US menus in 2016 and brought it back as a permanent item on July 10, 2025, with a crispy chicken strip, cheese and lettuce in a flour tortilla and a choice of ranch or spicy pepper sauce, at a launch price of $2.99 (Local10, July 10, 2025). Prices vary by restaurant.
Ranch or spicy
This version uses ranch. For a spicy one, swap the ranch for mayo stirred with a little hot sauce and a pinch of cayenne.
UK cooks
Tortilla wraps and ranch dressing are in most big UK supermarkets, and any mild grated cheddar works. The method is the same.
