How we make money
The short version
- DupeEats is free to use. Ads and affiliate links pay the bills.
- Some links to kitchen gear are affiliate links: if you buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
- As an Amazon Associate, DupeEats earns from qualifying purchases.
- Ads are always labeled “Advertisements”, and we never put them before a recipe’s ingredients.
- Money never changes a recipe, a vote, a Clone Score or a ranking.
- No brand pays us for coverage, and nothing on DupeEats is sponsored today.
Affiliate links
Affiliate links aren’t switched on yet. This section explains how they’ll work once they are.
Some recipes list the kitchen gear they call for, like an air fryer, a griddle or a squeeze bottle for sauce. Some of those links, and some on our kitchen gear page, are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the store may pay us a small commission. You pay the same price either way.
We work with the Amazon Associates program in the US (amazon.com) and the UK (amazon.co.uk), and you see the store for your region. As an Amazon Associate, DupeEats earns from qualifying purchases.
How we label them
- Every recipe with affiliate links says so at the top of the page, before the first link.
- The gear list itself is labeled “Affiliate links”.
- We tell search engines these links are paid, using the standard
rel="sponsored"tag. - On social media, posts with affiliate links say so, for example with #CommissionsEarned or the platform’s own paid-link label.
What a link means, and what it doesn’t
- We link the kind of tool a recipe actually needs. A link is not a review: unless a page clearly says so, we haven’t tested that specific product.
- We don’t show store prices, star ratings or product photos from Amazon.
- Affiliate links never decide which recipes we publish, how a recipe is written, a Clone Score, a debate result or a ranking.
- We never put affiliate links in our emails, including The Friday Drop, or in downloadable files like PDFs.
- There are no affiliate links in new menu drops, in the quiz or in debates.
What happens to your data
When you click an affiliate link, we only add one to a daily total of clicks. We don’t record who clicked. Once you’re on Amazon, Amazon’s own privacy notice applies to what it collects. More in our Privacy policy.
Advertising
We don’t show ads yet. When we do, they’ll come from Google AdSense first, and possibly from another ad network, such as Mediavine or Raptive, later. Here’s how they’ll work.
- Always labeled. Every ad space says “Advertisements”, so you can tell it apart from our content.
- Chosen by the ad network, not by us. We don’t pick individual ads. If you see one that looks wrong, email us the page link and, if you can, a screenshot.
- Kept out of the way. Ad spaces have a fixed size, so the page doesn’t jump. We never put an ad before a recipe’s ingredients, inside the Fast Food Wrapped quiz, on our legal pages or on How we count.
- Separate from our content. Advertisers can’t buy votes, Clone Scores, positions in a ranking or a mention in a recipe.
- Your choice about personalized ads. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, ads are personalized only if you agree. Elsewhere you can opt out, and we treat the Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out. Details in our Cookie policy and Your privacy choices.
We never pay for traffic, click our own ads or ask anyone to click them.
Sponsorships
Nothing on DupeEats is sponsored today. No restaurant chain, brand or agency pays us to cover a product, start a debate or publish a recipe.
If we ever publish sponsored content, it will say “Sponsored” at the top, before you start reading, and name who paid for it. Sponsors won’t get to review or approve what we publish, and a sponsorship will never touch votes, Clone Scores or rankings. On social media, we’ll use each platform’s paid partnership label. If we join a platform program that pays creators, we’ll follow its disclosure rules.
DupeEats Insider
We don’t offer paid plans yet. If we launch DupeEats Insider, a paid membership, it will have its own terms, show the full price including any tax before you pay, and let you cancel easily. Members won’t get any extra say over votes or results, and the free newsletter, The Friday Drop, will stay free.
The Friday Drop sometimes includes news about DupeEats itself, such as a new feature or Insider, and those parts are clearly marked.
What we never do
- Publish paid content without a clear label.
- Sell a position in a ranking, a Clone Score, a debate result or a recipe.
- Buy, sell, invent or remove votes, ratings or reviews to change a result.
- Accept money or free products in exchange for coverage. See our Editorial standards.
- Put affiliate links in our emails.
DupeEats is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of the restaurants or brands mentioned. More on our Trademarks and non-affiliation page.
