Accessibility

Version 1.0 · Updated October 13, 2026 · Effective October 15, 2026

The short version

  • We want everyone to be able to vote, cook and settle the score on DupeEats.
  • Our target is WCAG 2.2 level AA.
  • Today DupeEats is partially conformant: most of the site meets that standard, but some parts, mainly from other companies, may not.
  • We test every page template automatically on phone and desktop sizes, including keyboard use, contrast and zoom.
  • Found a barrier? Email us at dupeeats@gmail.com.

Our commitment

DupeEats should work for everyone, whether you use a screen reader, navigate with a keyboard, zoom in, prefer less motion or are on a small phone with a slow connection. We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA.

Conformance status

DupeEats is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. That means most of the site meets the standard, but some parts don’t fully meet it yet. Those are mainly parts that come from other companies, listed below.

How we build and test

  • Clear page structure: one main heading per page, headings in order, landmarks and a “Skip to content” link.
  • Everything works with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline on every link, button and field.
  • Text and controls meet WCAG contrast levels, and buttons are large enough to tap.
  • Images have text alternatives. Results shown on share images, such as a debate’s votes, are also on the page as text.
  • Form fields have labels, and errors are explained in words, not only with color.
  • Pages work at 200% zoom and on phone screens without scrolling sideways.
  • Animations respect your device’s “reduce motion” setting.
  • Key features, like reading recipes and taking the Fast Food Wrapped quiz, work without JavaScript.

We run automated accessibility checks on every page template at phone (390 pixels) and desktop (1,440 pixels) widths as part of our release checks, plus keyboard walk-throughs of the menu and dialogs. Automated tests can’t catch everything, and we haven’t yet completed a full manual audit with assistive technology such as screen readers.

Known limitations

  • Ads. When we show ads, the ads themselves come from ad networks, and we can’t fully control how accessible they are. Every ad space is labeled “Advertisements”.
  • Videos. Videos play in YouTube’s player, which loads only when you press play. Its controls and captions are provided by YouTube.
  • Security checks. To stop bots, some actions, like voting or sending a recipe, may show a Cloudflare Turnstile check. It usually runs on its own, but if it asks you to do something and you can’t, please email us.
  • Community content. Photos shared by home cooks may have short or general descriptions.
  • Older browsers. DupeEats is designed for recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on phones and computers. Some features may not work in older browsers.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on DupeEats doesn’t work for you, please tell us. Email dupeeats@gmail.com with:

  • the link to the page;
  • what you were trying to do and what happened; and
  • if you’d like, the device, browser and any assistive technology you use.

We read every message and use it to fix problems. If you need something from DupeEats in a different format, like a recipe as plain text, ask us and we’ll try to help.

About this statement

We wrote this statement based on our own testing, and we update it when the site changes in a way that affects accessibility.
