Copycat Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme: US and UK Recipe

Inspired by Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme Not the official recipe

Seasoned beef, a quick homemade nacho cheese sauce and a crisp tostada folded inside a big flour tortilla, then seared shut in a hot pan. The pleated fold takes one practice run, and after that it is easy.

Kitchen gear

  • Large heavy skillet
  • Small saucepan and whisk
  • Baking tray (UK tostada swap)

Method

  1. UK cooks without tostada shells: heat the oven to 400°F (200°C), brush 4 mini wraps very lightly with oil and bake them on a tray for 6 to 8 minutes, turning once, until crisp and golden. Let them cool on a rack so they stay crunchy.

    8 min
  2. Brown the beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 6 to 8 minutes, breaking it into small crumbles, until no pink remains. Spoon off most of the grease.

  3. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt and water. Simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring, until the liquid has reduced to a thick coating on the meat.

    5 min
  4. For the cheese sauce, toss the cheddar with the cornstarch. Warm the evaporated milk in a small saucepan until steaming, then turn the heat to low and whisk in the cheese a handful at a time until smooth, about 3 minutes. Add a pinch of salt and keep it warm.

  5. Wrap the large tortillas in a damp paper towel and microwave for 20 to 30 seconds so they are soft enough to fold without cracking.

  6. Build each one: spoon a quarter of the beef into a circle in the middle of a large tortilla, about the size of the tostada. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons of cheese sauce, press a tostada on top, spread with 2 tablespoons of sour cream, then add lettuce and tomato. Lay a small tortilla over the top.

  7. Fold the edge of the large tortilla up over the small one in overlapping pleats, working your way around until the top is closed. Hold the folds down with your palm.

  8. Heat a dry skillet over medium heat. Set each Crunchwrap in the pan folded side down and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until golden and sealed, then flip and cook the other side for about 2 minutes. Rest for 1 minute and cut in half.

    5 min

Tips for a closer clone

  • Cook the folded side first: the heat glues the pleats shut, so the wrap holds together when you flip it.
  • Simmer the beef until it is almost dry; a wet filling softens the tostada before it reaches the table.
  • If the cheese sauce thickens while you assemble, loosen it with a spoonful of evaporated milk over low heat.
  • Keep the lettuce and tomato cold and add them last, so they are still crisp when you bite in.

About this dupe

UK and US

Tostada shells are the one item most British supermarkets do not stock. Bake mini tortilla wraps until crisp instead (step 1): they give the same crunch in the middle. UK large wraps are usually about 25 cm across, a little smaller than an American burrito tortilla, so warm them well before folding and keep the filling in a tight circle. Use beef mince with around 20% fat, mild chilli powder (a blend, like US chili powder) and soured cream.

vs the original

On the menu in the US and listed for the UK in our menu data (menu status reviewed Oct 14, 2026). The chain describes it as seasoned beef, nacho cheese sauce, a crunchy tostada shell, sour cream, lettuce and tomatoes in a grilled flour tortilla. Our cheese sauce is made from cheddar and evaporated milk, so it is thicker and more cheddar-forward than a pumped nacho sauce.

What it costs: ingredient costs are estimates for the amount used, from supermarket listing prices checked on Oct 15, 2026 (Target.com in the US, Trolley.co.uk for UK supermarkets). Prices vary by store and week.
